The Bay Islands of Honduras offer a very different world from that of mainland Honduras. English is widely spoken on the Islands, although Spanish is still the official language of Honduras. You can learn more about Honduras from the Official Guide to Honduras or the Bay Islands Voice, a news magazine for Roatan that gives you some insight as to what is happening on the Island.
Roatan is a long Island, almost 40 miles long, with a landmass of 49 square miles. The Island has a ridge of mountains and is totally surrounded by coral reefs, earning it it's reputation for superb diving, as well as excellent fishing.
Getting to the Islands is becoming easier all the time: Isleña Airlines, Sosa Airlines, Atlantic Airlines, TACA, Continental and Delta all have service to Roatan on a regular basis, and Roatan is only a two and a half hour direct flight from Houston.
Roatan has a paved road that connects the most important communities of the Island. Starting from the Western End of the Island, the road leads through the communities of West End, Sandy Bay, all the way to Oakridge — Punta Gorda.
Infinity Bay Spa & Beach Resort is in the heart of West Bay, on the West End of the Island, which is the most famous area of Roatan. With more establishments catering to tourists, West End and West Bay offer beautiful beaches in a tropical setting.
West End offers a variety of activities other than just relaxing on the beach, such as sailing along the coast, scuba diving, sea kayaking, horse back riding, and more! If you are just arriving on the Island, you can easily get to West End using public transportation. Renting a car in Roatan is easy to do, or rent motorcycles, scooters and mountain bikes for easy and fun access to everything.
