Enjoy the Lush Vegetation of the Honduras Bay Islands

Roatan, in the Bay Islands of Honduras, is rich with lush tropical vegetation and several beautiful gardens around the island where you can enjoy a close look at the many tropical species on your Roatan vacation.

Two gardens close to Infinity Bay are Carambola Tropical Gardens and Gumbalimba Park.

Set aside at least a couple of hours during your Roatan vacation for a visit to the Carambola Botanical Gardens, along the banks of Mahogany Creek. The gardens offer a relaxing stroll through a diverse collection of flowering plants, ferns, spices, fruit trees, hardwood trees and orchids.

As well as the small, well-tended gardens, trails lead up the pretty valley through the arid tropical forest, past the iguana wall where iguanas and parrots breed, and up to the top of Carambola Mountain. From the summit you can soak in the gorgeous colors of the coral reefs below and see all the way out to the island of Utila.

The Carambola Botanical Gardens opened in 1985 and are dedicated to the environmental education of the children of Roatan, the Bay Islands and Honduras.

Gumbalimba Park

Discover botanic beauty in Gumbalimba Park’s exotic gardens with over 200 plant and animal species, numerous waterfalls and fountains and a suspension bridge over a large pond.

Gumbalimba is a whole day Roatan vacation destination, with an animal preserve, island history exhibits, canopy zip line tour, pool, beach, restaurant, and craft market. Get up close with macaws, parrots and monkeys who roam the gardens and will perch on your shoulders.
